Our People. Their Story: Celebrating 30 Years of Service

Paul’s journey at Ancon Construction is a testament to the power of finding the right fit and staying committed to it. In 2025, Paul celebrates 30 years with Ancon Construction.

Paul found his way to Ancon after working in a factory and realizing he wanted something more fulfilling. Inspired by his brother and drawn to hands-on work, he took a leap of faith and joined Ancon’s carpentry crew. That decision proved to be a defining moment in his career.

Although Paul briefly attended college, it quickly became clear that a traditional academic path wasn’t for him. He thrived in environments where he could build, problem-solve, and see tangible results at the end of the day, something he had always enjoyed during summer construction jobs. Construction wasn’t just work for Paul; it was a natural fit.

He began his career at Ancon as a carpenter, spending several years sharpening his skills and learning the trade. During slower periods, Paul jumped in to help the concrete crew, embracing the opportunity to learn something new.

Recognizing his work ethic and potential, Ancon encouraged Paul to continue growing. Over the years, he advanced into roles including warehouse manager and superintendent, each bringing new responsibilities and broader perspectives. These transitions reflected his willingness to take on new challenges.

One of Paul’s most notable leadership experiences was serving as superintendent for the Goshen Apartments project, Copperleaf Cove. The role deepened his understanding of construction management, from scheduling to coordinating subcontractors, and gave him valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes complexities that keep projects moving forward.

Throughout his three decades at Ancon, Paul credits the company’s culture as a major reason he’s stayed. He values the camaraderie, teamwork, and mutual respect that define the workplace. As an Employee Owner, he takes pride in working alongside people who genuinely care about their craft and about one another, something he knows is rare.

Several projects stand out as especially meaningful to Paul, including the Red Panda project and the carousel at the Potawatomi Zoo. “The opportunity to build a carousel was a remarkable experience,” Paul shares. Nothing compares to hearing his grandkids proudly say, “Grandpa built this for me!” Those moments turn construction projects into lasting legacies.

What keeps Paul motivated after 30 years? The people. Having worked elsewhere earlier in his career, he recognizes how special it is to be surrounded by dedicated professionals who take pride in their work and support one another every day.

For those considering a career in construction, Paul offers straightforward advice:

“Pay attention to your elders and learn from experienced professionals. Be prepared, stay open to new challenges, and never stop learning.” He notes that Ancon Construction encourages skill development and growth, key ingredients for long-term success in the industry.

Paul’s 30-year career at Ancon Construction is an example of what’s possible when opportunity meets commitment. From carpenter to superintendent, his story reflects the value of hard work, adaptability, and taking pride in building something that lasts.
