Temple Beth-El is an 8,619-square-foot renovation in Granger, Indiana, transforming a former funeral home into a welcoming and meaningful place for worship, learning, and community. The renovated facility includes classrooms, the rabbi’s office, a conference room, kitchen, social hub, and sanctuary, each thoughtfully designed to support the congregation’s spiritual and community needs.
At the heart of the sanctuary is the Bimah, a raised platform that serves as the focal point for worship. Oriented to face east, the Bimah provides space for the rabbi, liturgy speakers, reading tables, and the custom-designed ark that houses the Torah scrolls.
The ark is framed by a full-height porcelain tile wall and an intricate beam-and-column structure, creating a distinctive architectural feature within the sanctuary. Careful attention to materials, proportion, orientation, and symbolism helped ensure the space reflects the traditions and religious beliefs of Temple Beth-El.
Throughout the design process, Ancon Construction’s design team worked closely with Temple Beth-El’s building committee, listening to their goals and translating them into a thoughtful renovation that brings new purpose to an existing building. The result is a welcoming environment designed to support worship, education, fellowship, and the congregation’s future.
