One of the very few Japanese strolling gardens in Indiana, Shiojiri Garden symbolizes the sister-city relationship between Mishawaka and Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, which is directly on the opposite side of the Earth. The strolling garden is home to many large, colorful plants that deeply contrast the grey gravel that imitates water. Also, over 200 boulders are placed artfully in groupings, most often of 3 or 5, and situated to allow maximum contemplation. The garden is also home to four bridges. A teahouse stands at the far end of the garden, elevated to allow perfect viewing of the entire Shiojiri garden.
