TLCU Financial and Ancon Construction are excited to announce the completion of a new credit union building on Main Street in Mishawaka.
The new credit union responds to the “new age” of banking design. The business center and lobby is based on the dialogue banking concept – following the examples of new retail and hospitality environments. A teller line is replaced with pods or stations which allow for a relaxed, welcoming setting. Furthermore, customer service is improved through a more transparent interaction between tellers and customers. A two story lobby with elevated display nook, stone feature wall, and soft seating makes the space feel like a living room. Other programmatic spaces include offices, staff lounge, support spaces, and work rooms. The second floor features executive offices and conference room overlooking the lobby below.
The building has already received rave reviews – “…architecturally significant”, “…a somewhat retro style”, “…very unique how all the angles come together”, and “…its really nice to have distinctive architecture that draws your eye and feeds your soul”.
Ancon listened to all our wants and needs and exceeded our expectations!”, comments TLCU Financial CEO/President Jonette Thompson.

School’s in session! Goodwill Industries of Michiana and Ancon Construction are excited to announce the completion of a 25,000 sqft building project at The Excel Center – South Bend. The project is a great example of “adaptive re-use” as it converts an old, vacant office into modern educational spaces. The Excel Center – South Bend, which is operated by Goodwill LEADS, INC, provide adults the opportunity and support to earn a high school diploma and pursue post-secondary education while developing career paths that offer greater employment and career growth opportunities. Approximately 300 students are enrolled!
Project Manager Doug VonGunten reflects on the challenges and rewarding outcome of the project. “The biggest challenge of the project was the aggressive schedule. Several early delays, which were out of Ancon and the client’s control, condensed the construction schedule down to approximately 8 weeks from the original plan of 12-14 weeks. The start of the school year could not be delayed and the project had to be ready for incoming students. We mobilized the site on July 27th and we achieved certificate of occupancy on September 28th. We had great cooperation and a hard working team by all the subcontractors involved and could not have completed the project on time without their commitment.”
