Ancon Begins Construction on the New Oxbow Tower

Ancon Construction and Elkhart County Parks recently held a ground breaking ceremony to commence the construction process on the new Oxbow Tower.  Project Manager Ken Wright will oversee the construction which is slated to be done this fall.Ancon has been instrumental in the rebuilding process since the original tower was destroyed by arson in July 2010.  Ancon helped dismantle the remnants of the old tower and quickly began working with the rebuilding committee on conceptual designs of a new tower.  Several design iterations, renderings, a physical model, and different pricing exercises were performed.

About the design:  The tower placement utilizes an existing hillside in order for the first viewing level to be approximately 12’ above ground.  This level is ADA accessible by a ramp.  The top viewing level of the tower will match the old tower’s height of 32’.  The super-structure will be comprised of steel to give added strength and durability.   The tower’s design, location, and size respond to the current and future needs of the park and community with its anticipated educational and recreational uses.
